    Health Care Reforms in Estonia and Hungary: Lessons for Ukraine

    Countries of Central and Eastern Europe can be characterised by universal access health care systems. The specific of the region is that historical and continuing underfunding has resulted in poor infrastructure and lack of staff incentives. Almost all the countries of the region have started health care reforms but we can see dramatic differences in the achievements as some of them have succeeded enough to enter the EU while others are stuck on the way. This paper presents the experience of the health care reforms in two countries of Eastern Europe, reflects changes in structure and financing of the systems.

    Printed Media Coverage of HIV/AIDS: the Results of All-Ukrainian Monitoring of the Most Popular Newspapers and Magazines

    The paper presents the results of the all-Ukrainian monitoring of the most popular printed mass media on the coverage of the HIV/AIDS problem. Particularly, the following issues are highlighted: the media discourse and AIDS epidemics; publication numbers and volumes; key publication topics; key publication characters, attitudes to HIV-positive people and sources of information; argumentation and quality of articles. The results of the research show a certain level of interest of journalists on the HIV/AIDS issues. Still the quality and argumentation of articles needs to be greatly improved.

    Public Health Policy and Public Health Research in Ukraine: Linked, Interlinked or Unlinked?

    The paper explores the presence of connection between public health policy and public health research in Ukraine. Particularly, the authors' attention is paid to; the grounds for developing public health policy in Ukraine; priorities and main areas of public health research; the structure of public health research; input of international projects into public health research (such as Project CINDI, the International Renaissance Foundation, the World Bank, Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, USAID, European Union). The perspective trends for developing connection between public health policy and public health research are outlined.

    Social Enterprise as the Form of Deinstitutionalisation of Mental Health Services in Ukraine

    The paper explores the connections of the processes of social enterprise (SE) development and deinstitutionalization of mental health services in Ukraine. The author argues that mental health social enterprises in Ukraine are developing under the influence of hybridized American-European SE cultures. The development precedes the process of deinstitutionalisation of mental health in Ukraine which leads to the unsustainability and fragility of social enterprise development in Ukraine. At the moment, SE development in Ukraine is a mechanism of temporal sustainability of existing programs for mental health users and support of local communities.
