| dc.description | In this article the author examines the concept of the virtual body in the context of development of new information technologies. The author argues that in the virtual space of the global network, a physical body is replaced with a digital prosthesis, which is the user’s embodiment in the Internet. The type and characteristics of this virtual body depend on a certain electronic format. The article researches an example of the format of anonymous forums 4chan.com and 2ch.hk. The first part of the article briefly analyzes three classical approaches to the problems of technologies and the body cohabitation. The author applies the approaches of Marshall McLuhan, Jean Baudrillard, and Katherine Hayles to outline the idea that technologies – specifically, informational technologies – are extensions of the human body, i.e. prostheses, and from some point of view the human body itself can be seen as a prosthesis, which can be replaced by other means. This is why different embodiments of users in the virtual space can be seen as parts of their body. Hence the second part of the article analyzes virtual bodies owned by users of the English language, imageboard 4chan.com, and of the Russian language, 2ch.hk. Imageboards propose the format of users’ embodiment through anonymous posting, which is radically different from the mainstream formats like open forums or social networks. The virtual body at imageboards consists of only messaged texts with a possibility to add visuals, pictures, or short videos. This is creating a special kind of communication environment where the above mentioned excess of the body is abandoned and replaced with a more collective identity, where one`s representation is always blurred but possible through working with the messaged text. Thus virtual bodies can be seen as a replacement of physical bodies in the Internet, and the structure of different bodies represents the changes in the cultural behavior and perception. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | У статті досліджено феномен віртуальної тілесності, яка не тільки посідає важливе місце у сфері зацікавлення гуманітарних наук, а й увійшла як елемент повсякденності в життя значної частини сучасного людства завдяки мережі Інтернет. Розглянуто концепції поєднання віртуальності та тілесності, ключові підходи до аналізу цього поєднання. Предметом аналізу стали анонімні форуми як яскравий приклад конфігурації віртуального тіла, радикально відмінний від інших через анонімний спосіб репрезентації. Інформація, яку індивід викладає в публічний доступ, сприймається як його втілення в буквальному сенсі слова, а цифровий формат інформації впливає на характеристики буття віртуального тіла індивіда. | uk_UA |
