dc.description.abstractThe essay observes one of the most interesting dilemmas of Olexander Dovzhenko’s creative vision: cinema vs literature. Through the analysis of numerous excerpts from the master’s “The Diary Notes” we argue that literature and literary style often dominate there the language of cinema. We also pay attention to the doubt of the great director in whether he chose “a proper” profession and what the main work of his life should be: a movie or an epic novel.en
