dc.descriptionThe purpose of the article is to highlight the legal status of the "Galicia" division’ veterans from July 1944, when they were first taken into Soviet captivity, to the present day. The analysis of normative documents, archival materials, biographical data of the former soldiers, oral testimonies collected by the author, and the latest Ukrainian and Western literature would contribute to the understudied aspects of the divisionʼs postwar history. Conclusions. It is shown the life trajectories of the "Ukrainian divisijnyky" in comparison with those who were interned by British and American troops after the Second World War. Most of the Galician Brotherhood members in 1992 (almost 80% of its members) consisted of individuals who took part in the Battle of Brody in mid-1944. After the Brody encirclement, soldiers were taken prisoner by the Soviets and/or returned home and/or joined the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. Finally, one way or another, most of them were arrested by Soviet authorities during the post-war years. They were treated as "traitors to the Motherland" who defected to the enemy. Nevertheless, a small percentage of individuals have managed to avoid arrest. Their official status practically did not change both after the collapse of the USSR and after the implementation of the decommunization; some veterans were not rehabilitated due to their war records.en_US
dc.description.abstractМетою статті є висвітлення правового статусу ветеранів дивізії "Галичина" від липня 1944 р., коли вони вперше потрапили в радянський полон, і до сьогоднішнього дня. Аналіз нормативних документів, архівних матеріалів, біографічних даних окремих ветеранів дивізії, усних свідчень, зібраних авторкою, найновішої української та західної літератури становить наукову новизну, адже, за винятком поодиноких згадок, їхня повоєнна історія досі всебічно не розглядалася. Висновки. З’ясовано, якими були життєві траєкторії "українських дивізійників", порівняно з тими, які після Другої світової війни були інтерновані англійськими та американськими військами. Кістяк Галицького братства в 1992 р. склали ті, хто брав участь у битві під Бродами в липні 1944 р. (майже 80% членів). Після Бродівського котла вояки дивізії потрапили в радянський полон, і/або повернулись додому, і/або поповнили лави УПА. Зрештою, так чи інакше, більшість із них було заарештовано в повоєнні роки радянською владою, що трактувала їх як "зрадників Батьківщини", які перейшли на бік ворога. Тим не менш, є невеликий відсоток осіб, яким вдалося уникнути арешту. Їхній офіційний статус практично не змінився як після розпаду СРСР, так і після проведення політики декомунізації, частині ветеранів було відмовлено в реабілітації.uk_UA
