dc.descriptionThis publication examines a recently discovered private letter by one of the most prominent Ukrainian intellectuals of the seventeenth century — Inokentii Gizel (1610–1683), Archimandrite of the Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery. The document, written on 15 (25) June 1681, was addressed to Samiylo Zherebylo, who acted as an intermediary in the archimandrite’s contacts with the Volhynian nobleman Dmytro Zhabokrytsky, later the Orthodox Bishop of Lutsk and Ostroh, Dionysius. The source contains a request to deliver important papers to Zhabokrytsky urgently and under conditions of strict secrecy, since his honour and well-being depended on it. On 25 October 1684 the text of the letter was entered into the record books of the Lutsk Castle Court. Its disclosure was evidently connected with a crisis in Zhabokrytsky’s marital relations — a conflict that resulted in divorce and prolonged property disputes between the former spouses. In this context, Gizel’s message turned into a potential piece of compromising evidence, capable of influencing the outcome of the conflict. At the same time, the document reveals a wider perspective: it confirms the close ties maintained by Orthodox circles of the Kyiv Metropolis on both sides of the border between Muscovy and the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Thus, the discovery allows us to expand our understanding of Gizel’s communication network and of the nature of Orthodox connections in Eastern Europe in the second half of the 17th century. dc.description.abstractУ розвідці аналізується нещодавно виявлений приватний лист одного з найвідоміших українських інтелектуалів XVII ст. — архимандрита Києво-Печерського монастиря Інокентія Ґізеля (1610–1683). Лист було написано 15 (25) червня 1681 р. й адресовано Самійлові Жеребилові, посереднику в контактах настоятеля з волинським шляхтичем Дмитром Жабокрицьким, майбутнім луцьким і острозьким православним єпископом Дионісієм. У ньому міститься прохання терміново та в умовах максимальної секретності передати важливі папери Жабокрицькому, адже від цього залежали його честь і добробут. 25 жовтня 1684 р. текст листа внесено до актових книг Луцького ґродського суду. Його оприлюднення було, очевидно, пов’язане з кризою у відносинах Жабокрицького та його дружини — конфліктом, який призвів до розлучення і тривалих майнових суперечок між колишніми шлюбними партнерами. Відтак, послання Ґізеля перетворювалося на потенційний компромат, здатний вплинути на підсумок протистояння. Водночас документ відкриває ширший контекст: він підтверджує тісні контакти православних середовищ Київської митрополії по обидва боки кордону між Московією та Річчю Посполитою. Таким чином, знахідка дозволяє розширити уявлення про коло комунікацій Інокентія Ґізеля та про характер православних мереж у Східній Європі другої половини XVII ст.
