Item Memory and Materiality in Conflict Landscapes: Spontaneous Memorials in the Russian-Ukrainian War(2025) Nahirna, Diana; Demina, AlisaAbstracts of the report of the participants of the 31st EAA Annual Meeting (2-6 September 2025, Belgrade Virtual). The ongoing war in Ukraine is fundamentally reshaping public and private topographies through systemic violence and destruction. This study investigates the intersection of materiality and memory, focusing on how conflict-damaged spaces are transformed into memorials, spontaneous shrines, or sites of avoidance. As physical environments evolve, so does the human perception of traumatic events, creating a reciprocal relationship between the materiality of war and collective memory.Item Shifting the Narrative: Towards Better Practices in Archaeological Cooperation(2025) Demina, Alisa; Ivanova, OleksandraAbstracts of the report of the participants of the 31st EAA Annual Meeting (2-6 September 2025, Belgrade Virtual). The full-scale war has intensified global discourse on research colonialism and the destruction of heritage, yet it raises the question of whether this visibility fosters genuine equity or reinforces paternalistic approaches. Through the initiative "Why Archaeology Matters? A Ukrainian Perspective," the authors advocate for a shift toward sustainable, collaborative practices that empower local researchers to define their own theoretical frameworks and reclaim their role in global knowledge production.
